History

When Dr. Satish Chandra founded the Network of Indian Professionals in 1990 in Chicago, IL, he had no idea that his idea would have such an impact and evolve as greatly as it has today. Dr. Chandra was initially just hoping to provide a forum for South Asians to meet with each other than the traditional settings such as school and the workplace. However, his idea was one that ended up greatly resonated greatly with highly talented, socially responsible, and dynamic South Asian professionals. Since 1990, NetIP has grown to have chapters in over 22 cities and has a reach of almost 35,000 individuals today with its activities and programs.

NetIP fulfills its original mission by enabling local chapters across the country accomplish the following:

  • Foster a stimulating and interactive environment for South Asian professionals to establish and grow in their local communities
  • Encourage professional excellence in the workplace by fostering the individual development of South Asian professionals
  • Address the professional, political, cultural, and social issues that affect South Asian professionals
  • Facilitate increased communication, interaction and the exchange of ideas among South Asian professionals to learn new skills and acquire knowledge from other recognized leading professionals as well as each other
  • Engender South Asian professionals with a sense of responsibility towards their communities and provide them with opportunities to engage in charitable activities;
  • Promote the cultural heritage of South Asians

Today, an Executive Committee and Board of Directors govern NetIP North America and oversee the general operation within the organization. The Board of Directors is comprised an elected Chapter Liaisons as well as President from each local chapter as clearly explained in our bylaws.

In addition, we also now have a Board of Advisors in place to ensure that the NetIP organization continues in its longetivity, maintains its strengths and we are focused on a long term strategic vision as we expand and grow.
