Emerging Issues - A Multifaceted Look at Federal Procurement

Patentable Subject Matter After the Bilski Oral Argument
On Thursday, November 19, 2009, the Federal Circuit Bar Association and the Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property at Washington College of Law, American University, will host a panel of experts to discuss Bilski v. Kappos, shortly after the Court hears the oral argument. Panelists will discuss possible effects the case will have on innovation, prosecution, licensing and litigation. The program will be held at the Washington College of Law and broadcasted via the web by FCBA. For more information, click here.

25th Annual Dinner
This year’s annual dinner will be held on November 20, 2009 from 6:30 to 9:30 PM at the Mayflower Hotel in downtown Washington, D.C. Chief Judge Paul R. Michel will be the evening’s keynote speaker, followed by the presentation of the Douglas B. Henderson and George Hutchinson scholarship awards. Dress is black-tie preferred. Chief Judge Paul R. Michel reports on the "State of the Court"
Chief Judge Michel delivered the annual State of the Court Speech on Friday, June 19 at the 11th Annual Federal Circuit Bar Association Bench & Bar Conference.  The speech addressed not only the current State of the Court, but also emerging needs of the Court and challenges to its future, including legislative proposals of concern, threats to expeditious dispositions, en banc rehearings, and potential vacancies.  Interested members of the Bar are encouraged to read the chief judge’s speech.

At the Beginning: Circuit Judges Speak on the Formation of the Federal Circuit
On March 18, 2009, Chief Judge Paul Michel, Judge Daniel Friedman, Judge Pauline Newman, and Judge Randall Rader discussed, in insightful detail, the formation of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and its subsequent history.
