Notice- Waterman Conservation Education Center Membership

At our last meeting we were fortunate enough to have Mr. Scott McDonald from the Waterman Conservation Education Center as our guest speaker.  His presentation on the Brick Pond in Owego, NY was very informative with regards to the flooding that occurred in the locality and subsequent rebuilding of that facility. The Leadership Committee has seen to it that a $200 donation will be sent to the Center to assist them in their efforts.  We encourage you to consider joining this organization and visiting the many locations that they manage in the Southern Tier.  Attached is an application that can be used should you decide to join. The form is in PDF format and you will need Adobe Reader to open it.

Binghamton Senior Elfun / GE Volunteers Newsletter

December 1, 2008

The new Elfun year is underway. The past year was a good year but the Leadership Team is still looking for ways to be able to say we are having a Great Elfun Year.

New Web Site: Gary Miller, our web master has made some big changes. We had our own web site but GE brought us back into Corporate Elfun. This is the link I would ask you to go there and put it in your favorites: http://www.memberconnections.com/olc/pub/GNL/cpages/homepage.jsp?chapter=78 This link has the advantage of getting you directly to the national Elfun Home Page.

Meetings: We haven't had a lot of meetings lately, did you notice? Attendees at the 12/3/08 meeting discussed that topic and it was decided to have two (2) Elfun Retirees meetings per year. The tentative dates of the 2009 meetings will be April 7th at the plant and October 2nd at the Vestal Library. Firm dates will be provided when I can confirm availability of the facilities. I am looking for a volunteer to be responsible for the programs to be presented in 2009. In terms of the Vestal Library menu, arranging for bagels and coffee is not problem since Wegman?s always has them fresh when we need them. It is also very easy to schedule meetings there. Our informal meeting took place on December 3, 9:00 till 11:00 at the Vestal Library with plenty of no-charge bagels and coffee. Since I was unable to find anyone to do a specific presentation on the Controls Reunion, the meeting was conducted in a roundtable format. Some of the people who attended the GE Aerospace reunion in Branson, MO gave us some insight into that reunion and some of the activities that were included. Attendees at the Branson reunion included the following:

The retirees (& spouses/significant others) in attendance are pictures above but names are not in any order. You will have to do your best to identify people that you haven?t seen in years. Paul & Jeanette Castiglione, Skip and Ann Marie Christ, Loren and Vicki Fairbanks, Ray and Virginia Freedman, Joe and Georgiann Galant, Dave and Nadine Hogan, Nick and Georgianna Ide, Vern and Rose Jackson, Pat Kosecher, Ray and Donna Kurlak, Jack and June Malloy, Don and Helen Makers, Hank and Dale McGlynn, John and Donna McGrath, Jerry and Lilah Murray, Dick and Phyllis Quinlivan, Ken and Alice Ramby, Paul and Joan Raymont, Bill Smith, George Quon and Karen Sommers, Milt and Gail Wildrick & Jack and Mary Kay Wilson To see all the reunion photos go to www.photobucket.com and enter the user name "Gereunion" and the password "flightcontrol" - at the bottom you can click "view all" or go page by page. To see a full size picture, double click on the thumbnail. To save a copy, right click and do a save as.

Dues remain at $15 and should be sent to:

Warren Scofield , 9 Colpitts Dr.  Kirkwood, NY 13795-1138.

GE Volunteers is in full operation at the corporate level. The web site is http://www.ge.com/volunteers/ and it will show you what is going on globally. Our volunteer project funding will come from GE Volunteers and it utilizes a ?grant? process by which the organization actually applies for the funding directly with GE Volunteers. The leadership team received $3,000 for our local projects. The money was used for our 2008 volunteer projects. We will have allocated all this money before January.

Samaritan House:

Joe Lomonaco continues to volunteer and lead others in facility maintenance projects.

Ramp Report:

Merrill Johnson and his team continued their Ram Projects.

Our Enchanted Seeds Children's Garden at Owego Elementary School

... which was funded two years ago continues to develop. It is continues use by the after school garden club.

Boy Scouts of America - Camp Tuscarora Service Projects:

Fred Neebe and his crew have worked all year to make Tuscarora a better and safe camping experience:

1. Electrical Power to Parking Lot Program Pavilion

2. Handicap Patrol Site Latrine

3. Handicap Patrol Site Lean-tos.

4. Tuscarora Trail Maps:  The October 2008 Edition of the Tuscarora Trails Map marked in color was installed in the picture frame in the Camp masters Building.  Art Warrick has copies in the notebooks.  Our thanks to Ike Crosby for updating the trail changes made on the Day of Caring, September 11, 2008.

So what volunteer project would you like to propose?

Please contact me and we can discuss.

Best regards & Happy Holidays,

Angie Smith, Chapter Chairman
